About Us

The Nautilus Institute™ is a research-based initiative of Nautilus, Inc. that provides the motivation and education to help more people embrace lifelong health and fitness patterns.

Our purpose is simple: to help more people lead a fit and healthy life.

Our society embraced a new era of fitness three decades ago through aerobics, equipment and clubs, but fewer than one in five people truly benefit from a fit and healthy lifestyle today. If we are going to tap into all the benefits that sustainable exercise offers our society, we need to help more people start, improve upon, and maintain fitness and exercise patterns for a lifetime.

We all know that a lifetime of sustainable exercise can advance quality of life, reduce health risks and costs, and make people feel better about themselves. We also know there is no magic pill or silver bullet. Instead of over-promising, we need to start motivating and educating. We need to help people take the next step toward all that fitness offers them.

The Nautilus Institute™ is a way for Nautilus, Inc. to give back to the fitness industry and to the consumers we serve. Nautilus is uniquely positioned to serve this leadership role because our sole focus is fitness. We have products in every category and in every channel. We have the industry's four strongest brands. And, we have a leadership team motivated to make our society healthier through proper fitness and nutrition.

We are very pleased to bring together leading experts to guide the Nautilus Institute™ and everything it will bring to society and the fitness industry.

We will present the best fitness resources our industry has to offer, in the easiest and most convenient way, to get more people interested and excited about fitness on a regular and progressive basis.

We don't intend to stop.

Mission and Objectives

Motivate ~ Educate ~ Life-Long Results
The Nautilus Institute™: Helping people begin and improve upon a lifetime of high-quality fitness through:

  • Expert information
  • Clinical research
  • Practical applications

Start Smart:
First and foremost, people need resources to help them start smart. One cannot go from "hopeful' to "Hercules," or from "couch potato" to "cover model," in one day. Unrealistic expectations end up being discouraging instead of motivational! Exercise should be an uplifting and progressive process according to each person's readiness, by doing just a little more than they did the day before.

Stay Smart:
People also need resources to help them stay smart as they progress. Once they become motivated and active, people seek credible guidance and advice to keep them on track for success on their personal fitness journey. For example, a well-balanced workout includes strength, cardio, balance, and flexibility.

Do it for Life:
People need support as they transition through various stages of life. More people are in their 60s and beyond today than ever before. The Boomers are in their 40s-50s. The Echo Boomers are in their 30s-40s. Generation Y is hitting their 20s. Our school-age generation needs the foundational education to incorporate wise fitness habits that can last a lifetime.

To meet these needs, we'll conduct research, convene experts, provide helpful guidance, and develop and support programs that can change peoples' fitness regimens for a lifetime.
